RIF Pittsburgh was founded in 1981 by a resident of the Northside neighborhood, Marirose Radelet. Marirose often sat outside and read books to the children in her community. When she invited the children to bring books of their own to share, she learned that they didn't have any books of their own. RIF Pittsburgh started as a small, grassroots organization dedicated to putting books into the hands of the children in our communities who need them most.

Today, RIF Pittsburgh is one of the 5 largest RIF programs in the nation! In 2008, RIF Pittsburgh was selected as National Program Excellence Honoree.
