Statement on Racial Equity

Reading Is Fundamental Pittsburgh shares the grief and outrage of our families and partners in the Black community as recent events drive home how far our society is from achieving racial equality.

The police killing of yet another black person, George Floyd – set against the backdrop of a pandemic that is disproportionately severe for African Americans – underscores the brutal divisions that continue to confront us.

We believe that all people in our communities have the same rights to safety and fair treatment, and that the only way forward is together. We commit to continue to work alongside our partners and families in the Black community, to listen to and support their needs, and to help educate and inspire each other to create a more just and safe place for all.
