Everybody Wins!

Everybody Wins! is a literacy mentoring program that strives to build literacy skills and a love of reading in elementary school students. This program pairs kindergarten through third-grade students with corporate and community volunteers to share conversation and read together. These consistent, one-on-one experiences increase a child’s opportunity for success, both academically and in life.

Throughout the year, students look forward to spending time with their Reading Buddies and benefit from the encouragement of a caring adult and opportunity to read stories together, while mentors enjoy sharing their love of books and the satisfaction of having a meaningful impact on a young person’s life. Formal evaluations have demonstrated that Everybody Wins! is one of the very few programs to effectively impact low-income students in reading comprehension, motivation and achievement, as well as overall academic performance, classroom behavior, self-confidence and social skills.

RIF Readers

RIF Readers, our newest initiative, has all the benefits of our in-school model but takes mentoring a step further: RIF Readers’ corporate model forges positive relationships that bridge the historically different economic, social and educational worlds of children from struggling neighborhoods, and adults who’ve achieved a professional success outside the realm of most of these children’s families and neighbors. These relationships go beyond helping children learn to read and provide them with resources, opportunities, and motivation to envision a better future for themselves through education.

During COVID, we shifted to a virtual mentoring model, which has been a huge success and enables Reading Buddies to continue meeting once a week over Zoom, sharing new stories together, working through brain-boosting activities, and cultivating strong motivational relationships. Currently the program runs both in person and virtually.
