U.S. Secretary Cardona's #EdBusTour24 Visits the Storymobile

Last Friday, RIF Pittsburgh was invited to be a part of the U.S. Secretary of Education’s Back to School Bus Tour! This multi-state, weeklong tour concluded in Pittsburgh after stops in Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana.

As part of the tour, Dr. Miguel Cardona’s bus visited Pittsburgh Faison and parked right beside the Storymobile! It was a blast to host our first story time of the new school year with Kindergarten students and an honor to discuss early literacy onboard the Storymobile with Secretary Cardona, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randi Weingarten, PPS Superintendent Dr. Wayne Walters, and many other guests!

Another highlight was one of our Everybody Wins! mentees, Zavier, showing off his reading skills as part of the tour while Kyle, our Director of Mentoring, spoke to these special guests about the power of a mentoring relationship for building joy around reading. We are grateful to Pittsburgh Faison for partnering with us and to Secretary Cardona for using this bus stop to highlight the great work being done by community partners and volunteers here in Pittsburgh!
